Glenn Greensides was born in Toronto Ontario, and settled in British
Columbia in 1982. Following a short career as a log home builder,
he continued to use his chainsaw handling abilities to unleash a whole
new talent.
In
1990 he set up a Demonstration Booth at the Prince George Forestry
Exhibition during which time he met Paul McKenzie, the world famous loggers
sports clown who introduced him to sales reps from Husqvarna
Chainsaws. Later that summer he was asked to demonstrate his
carving skills at the 1990 P.N.E.in Vancouver.
Since
that show, Glenn has solely supported himself through his artistic
talent. His
works quickly went from coffee tables and gardens to massive monument
for communities, businesses and resorts. Inspired
by large trees and the issues surrounding them, Glenn unlike most
artists, has focused the theme of his art to promote and educate the
positive sides of forestry in our province. His
first major project titled, "Tribute To
The Forest" consists
of a collection of 31 wood sculptures created from some of the most
remarkable dead standing trees to be found in the province of B.C.
This
towering collection located at Grouse Mountain, focused on the positive
roles that humans play in our forest ecosystem through the aid of
walking tours and signage.
In 1996 Glenn won a provincial
competition known as "Beyond Boards" which was held by
Forest Renewal,
BC. and recognized Glenn's valuable use for oversized pulp grade Douglas
Fir logs. |
